SAFETY - Always use Grade 80 High-strength Alloy Chain of the correct capacity. Any Bull Rings, Links, Hooks etc. should be of the correct capacity and design for overhead use.
Regularly examine rigging and discard any elongated, cracked or deformed or excessively worn chain links, hooks etc.
Cable that is kinked, frayed or excessively worn should be discarded.
WHEN LIFTING - Be sure the scale hook is directly over the load so that when lifted it does not swing. This both endangers personnel and is hard on the crane, scale and rigging.
Ease the load off the surface. Jerk lifting is hard on the equipment, the load and could be dangerous.
TORSION OR TWISTING OF THE LOAD CAN REDUCE THE INTEGRITY OF THE LOAD CELL AND COULD CAUSE FAILURE. IF THERE IS A LIKELIHOOD OF TWISTING, AND YOUR SCALE DOES NOT HAVE A BEARING SWIVEL JOINT, USE ONE WHEN RIGGING.
OFF CENTER LOADING CAN AFFECT ACCURACY - BE SURE THE LOAD CAN EQUALIZE ITSELF WITHOUT PULLING THE SCALE OUT OF PLUMB

|
INCORRECT - Not only is this hard on your straps but, unless your load is equally distributed it will pull your scale out of plumb when aligning itself.
Although the illustration is with webbed strap, chain or cable looped this way is equally bad.

|
"HEAVEN HELP US" - Do you want to be around when the chain begins to slip ?
This may be quick but it's very dangerous. |

|
CORRECT -Use of a master link allows the load to plumb itself without putting the scale in a bind.
